Xổ số đài thoải máiIn May 2019, the City of Reno received a National Endowment for the Arts Our Town Grant to support public outreach and public art creation to commemorate the City of Reno's 4th Street District.

Xổ số đài thoải máiThe Lincoln Highway project will bring together businesses and residents of east 4th Street in a community process to create a sense of social cohesion, safety, and identity. This two-year community engagement process will explore cultural district development, the history of the area, storytelling, and the past and future of Reno. The result will be one or more public artworks that reflect the community identity.

Xổ số đài thoải mái4th Street has undergone many transformations and, most recently, the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County completed a two-year multimodal improvement project connecting the City of Reno and the City of Sparks. The City of Reno will partner with the 4th Street Brewery District, Nevada Humanities, and the Community Assistance Center to realize this project.

was brought on as a community engagement consultant for the project. Saint Paul, Minnesota-based Forecast fosters dynamic, inclusive and resilient communities through public art, community-engaged design and transformative placemaking.

Forecast and City Arts staff organized several community engagement sessions in the fall and winter of 2019-2020. These included community meetings, historical presentations, interactive art, surveys, gatherings at bars and businesses on E. 4th St., mapping, and conversation. Forecast compiled all of the information they gathered and put it into a report with guidance on moving forward with the project based on community input. Forecast's report can be read here.

After this series of initial community engagement sessions and input collection, a call to artists was put out as a request for qualifications. From the 71 submissions received, the Public Art Committee (with input from the E. 4th St. community) selected 3 finalist artists/teams to move forward in the process.

Finalist Artists/Teams

DiBari & Associates

Nicknamed "The Dream Team," DiBari & Associates is a unique associated studio, located in Miami, Florida, bringing together star-artists and star-designers that share the same vision: creating eco-compatible, iconic environments implementing new materials and technologies. Leading DiBari & Associates much like the conductor of an orchestra, Vito works in partnership with associated artists to create memorable public art that shapes the look and feel of cities in order to enhance the quality of life for residents.

Kipp Kobayashi

Kipp Kobayashi is an artist whose work examines the traces of human activity; the evidence, impressions and energies that we leave behind and that imprint layer upon layer over time like a patina, absorbing into the structures and systems of our physical world, transforming them into living entities of our collective thoughts, action and experiences. His ideas stem from his experiences growing up as an Asian American which has led to a lifelong interest in deconstructing our preconceived notions of who we are and what we are; breaking them down into the most basic elements of human and natural factors to better understand the unique sets of combinations and patterns that define a more nuanced interpretation of identity and cultural belonging.

Todd Moyer

Todd Moyer is a new media sculptor and installation artist, specializing in projection-mapping, kinetic sculpture, and novel lighting systems. He's been one of the leading installation artists for Insomniac Events (Electric Daisy Carnival, EDC Brasil, EDC NY, EDC Mexico, EDC Orlando, Nocturnal Wonderland). He's created whimsical, interactive experiences, such as a 37-foot tall, rotating, projection-mapped caterpillar, and a forest of 32 giant electronic daisies.

Community Forums

The artists/teams will be speaking with the community and learning about E. 4th St. in two community forums.

September 8th at 12:00 pm: Historical Overview of E. 4th St. with historian Alicia Barber. .
September 22nd at 11:00 am: Current Status & Future Visions with residents and business owners in the E. 4th St. corridor.

After these community conversations, the artists submitted a proposal for artwork. The artists presented their proposals at a public meeting on December 7, 2020. .

The Public Art Committee of the Reno Arts & Culture Commission will be meeting on Monday, December 14, 2020 to vote on an artist to move forward with the E. 4th St. Public Art Project and send their recommendation to the RACC for approval at their December 21, 2020 meeting.
